Sham Valley also known as “Apricot Valley” is the abode of the Apricot Flower that blossoms in the valley during winters. It is perhaps the easiest and most enjoyable trek around Leh which gives an insight into traditional Ladakhi village life.
The most isolated of the Himalayan valleys, Zanskar is known for its exquisite monasteries, snow-capped peaks and stunning vistas. It is located in the north of the northern region of Indian Kashmir, on a high plateau of the Himalayan.
The foremost reasons to visit are the breath-taking vistas of the Rong Valley gorge, through which the Indus flows, are the pristine lakes (tsos) and wetlands, such as Tsokar and Tso Moriri, that support a host of rare wildlife.

Snow Leopard Conservancy India Trust (SLC-IT) was established in 2000 as part of the Snow Leopard Conservancy. It became an independent Indian non-profit organization in 2003. Mr. Rinchen Wangchuk, our founder director, spearheaded the trust, working closely with livestock herding communities to develop conservation programs that continue to benefit snow leopards as well as local communities. He was also responsible for the eco-tourism-initiative under an acclaimed UNESCO-sponsored project that enabled SLC-IT and its partners to launch the award-winning Himalayan Homestay Program.
Since 2002, SLC-IT has trained over 130 families to offer homestays across Ladakh, and our initiative has proven to benefit not only local communities, but wildlife in the surrounding environment. In recognition of its innovative grass-roots approach to wildlife conservation, Himalayan Homestays has been presented numerous awards.
By opting for a Himalayan Homestay, you help local people generate income from tourism activities in their areas. This additional income helps in many ways: offsets livestock losses caused by snow leopard and other predators. It helps increase local communities’ stake in conserving wildlife, also supporting local conservation actions that protect cultural and natural heritage.
